Satpal Singh

As a child, Satpal Singh found tremendous fascination with the Indian percussion instrument, the tabla. As an amateur artist he played as accompanist for Kirtans in the Sikh community around the Greater Toronto Area while he trained in vocals and harmonium.

Training in Percussion: With his childhood love for the sweet rhythms of the tabla always in his heart, Satpal began his professional studies in 2002 under the instruction of his Guru, Shri. Ritesh Das. To this day, his childhood fascination continues and his driving inspiration to excel in his studies is drawn from phenomenal personalities in the music world, namely Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri and Ustad Ahmed Jan Thirakwa.

Accomplishments: He has accompanied artists such as former Tea Party Member, Jeff Martin, and accomplished Kathak dancer, Joanna de Souza.  His persistence and dedication to his practice propelled his studies and he was invited to join the Toronto Tabla Ensemble (TTE) in 2005. Satpal teaches Tabla classes for Sanskriti Arts across the Greater Toronto Area since 2008
