
Monika has been an enthusiastic member of the Sanskriti Arts Ensemble since 2006. Her experience learning from Sanskriti’s instructors Puja Amin and Nirmala Jadoonanan at the UrbanNoise Youth Outreach program at her school left her wanting more and more of the bollywood blast that she experienced in the after-school program. Her excitement and enthusiasm bought her an invitation from Artistic Director Puja Amin to join the Sanskriti Arts Ensemble. Her passion for dance has only excelled after joining SAE and has demonstrated an extraordinary interest in stage performances. At present, she is preparing to go University of Toronto for her further education in Management program to be a Chartered Accountant.
Training in Dance: Monika started dancing at the age of five in India performing in various birthday parties and small occasions at her school. She began dance classes for professional development at the age of eight with India’s famous ‘Boogie Woogie’. Monika holds two years of intense Bharatnatyam training under her belt. In Canada, she learned Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dancing for a year. After joining SAE, she has received training under Puja Amin in Bhangra, Kathak, Raas-Garba, and several other types of Indian Folk dances.
Accomplishment: Monika has participated in many dance shows in India. She has been actively performing with SAE at prominent events across Canada such as Masala Mehndi Masti, Sherbrooke Festival (Quebec), Hot Spot (Harbour Front) etc. Recently, she has also filmed for an episode of Latest Buzz on Family Channel.
